Mapping lighting analysis

Not entirely TD specific yet but Im interested in what methods/tools people use to calculate ambient light and projector brightness for projection mapping? I’ll soon have a 3d lighting analysis model of a physical space but need to understand how best to project pre install.

On the projector side, I use this:
projectorcentral.com/project … or-pro.cfm

For lighting, check this out:

Light meters, just make sure they get a Lux or Foot-candle reading, some do and some dont:

Once you get some lighting levels, you can compare those against the projector calculator set to Video/Games. I’ve done a couple installs referencing that, so I get a feel for my usage vs what projector calculator recommends. Sometimes I like to get a bit brighter to really make visuals pop, and sometimes I dont mind laying back a bit because of context of the projections. But hopefully that gets you started.

Thats really helpful Elburz, thanks.
As the physical space is yet to be built lighting calculations will come from the architect. I’ll use this for my own 3D model with unbiased rendering, daylight system and IES light fittings to get an accurate representation, then project an HD size image from a virtual projector through a light set at 7500 lumens. This should provide a reasonably accurate understanding of contrast, brightness and even pixel spread.
