So I am working on an interactive installation using coloured shapes that people move around to trigger sounds. So each of the individual installation consists of a webcam IN going through TD and the audioOUT to a single headphone.
Now I need to do 5 of these setups inside a room.
I am not an audio person, so if I use a single PC/mac(I have an option to use both) to take in 5 different cameras IN and then 5 headphone OUTs with different generated sounds ofcourse as per the camera IN.
What audio-interfaces can I use to implement this? Or a mixer?
Or is there another way? Would I require any other tech like a headphone amp? I know I would have to use a lot extenders and cables.
Hello,
If I try to understand
– 5 cameras entering 1 computer : not so easy but you dont ask about it.
– 5 video analysis triggering sounds : mono or stereo sounds ?
– 5 different headphone outputs : I would use a sound card with 5 outputs for mono sounds and 10 outputs for stereo sounds like this one
Thank you so much for your time firstly! This sounds great, I am gonna test the audio soon with the interface and the headphone amps.
Okay so coming to the cameras, is that too stupid to even try? Should we just use 5 different laptops? It is basically detecting coloured shapes and I am lowering it’s resolution and using threshold to analyse it. My Mac did heat up once even with one camera but in really hot weather.
Sure I am gonna test it with the cameras too today but still I would like to know your opinion.
Hello,
I cannot have opinion because I never tested it
Best way is to test in real size but I think that 5 simultaneous video analysis can be a demanding task.
As always, test, test and test again !
