This seems like a basic question so apologies in advance! I can’t find the answer on the forums - what is the recommended way to record what is being rendered for a video? I have tried using a movie file out, as well as an 3rd party app (OBS) but in both cases, the output has been a bit choppy. Before playing around with settings, I wanted to see what others recommend.
This really depends on what you are trying to record and how heavy your project is.
Firstly I would look at Export Movie Dialog - Derivative - this is the best way if you’re not recording anything that requires real-time (eg hand-tracking, time-based etc.). Keep in mind if you’re using animations that uses ‘time’ (like absTime.seconds or a CHOP that provides time), you may need to switch to referencing the frame so that the output is smooth and reproducible.
If what you are recording does need to be real-time you and it is choppy when recording, you may need to lower your frame-rate target (bottom left) and the recorded video frame-rate in the Movie File Out TOP. Additionally, if you place it in perform mode you will gain some performance whilst recording using the Movie File Out TOP.
If you have any more info about the project you are working on, feel free to share so we may be able to provide more recommendations
Hi @rahimadatia and @Jaydos,
just as an additional resource, there is a small article on our wiki on the topic of Recording Movies with Audio:
