NVIDIA Studio Driver 577.00 crashing with 2025.30280

“An error occured trying to output to a Window.
This bug can likely be fixed by rolling back to Nvidia driver 555.XX. You may have to search online for the download page, as the Nvidia.com downloads page may not have drivers that old.”

I am getting the above error on running touchdesigner the moment I try to enter my credentials to sign in using derivative account.

I have been using touchdesigner for a few months. On my old laptop it was running a little slower so I decided to get a new laptop. My new laptop has a RTX 5060 GPU, when I run touchdesigner (any version, I tried 3-4 different ones including ones in the title), it gives this same error. I tried downgrading my Nvidia graphics driver but my laptop isn’t compatible with the nvidia 555.XX. What can I do?

Can you try downgrading to the lowest version you can find that works for your laptop?
Also, do you have VRR or HDR enabled for that laptop?

I have this laptop: Rog Strix G16 G615lm RTX 5060 (2025)
I have the HDR settings as attached.

HDR is supported for video streaming but not for apps and games. I have also found this given information in my Nvidia control panel. I am confused on what I should select.
Also my laptop does have VRR support, but I have not manually turned it on as it would require me to force my RTX 5060 GPU to drive the display instead of it automatically switching from integrated graphics and the GPU.

I also went to the Nvidia app and backrolled to Nvidia 576.88 graphics driver and I still get the same error.

If you go to the main display settings, is HDR enabled there? (not in the nvidia control panel).

Don’t change anything in that Nvidia Control Panel page

I have HDR enabled for video streaming.. It says HDR is not supported for apps and games..

If you go back to the ‘Display’ settings page (one page back from there), there is an overall HDR toggle. Is that on or off?

I do not have this HDR toggle. And you can see (in previous reply) I have HDR turned on for video streaming, meanwhile HDR is not supported for games, apps on my laptop according to that.

Ok thanks for confirming. Could be worth turning that off as a test. I’ve reported this issue to Nvidia

Turning that HDR video streaming setting off for now made me be able to get past the login stage, and I can access touchdesigner now.. I hope the issue doesnt arise again later. Thank you for your help. And thank you for reporting that.

im having a similar issue where the latest experimental build will not open
my machine is an Alienware 16 Area-51 Gaming Laptop with a rtx 5090 laptop gpu. My driver version is 577

I answered the other thread, but for visibility, this error isn’t related to the GPU. It’s different than the issue being faced by the topic of this thread.

I am having a similar issue again. It seems disabling HDR video streaming has not solved the issue at core.. any action that brings up a pop-up is causing crashes.

Adding an operator, going into a colour picker in the Constant (TOP), even trying to look at reference snippets for help into seeing what the operator does yields a similar crash with the same error code..

We’re continuing to work on this issue with Nvidia. It’s a very hard one to track down it seems.

Hello is this issue fixed? I just bought a new laptop yesterday and I have the same error message. Hope sooooo, thanks in advance!

I have found a temporary fix that needs to be implemented every time I use TD. I go to nvidia control panel and force gpu preference to be my RTX 5060 card. And in graphics settings I changed TD to always use dgpu. If still doesn’t work go to display settings and turn HDR settings off. Very tedious to do all this but it’s my fix for now. If anyone has found something better please suggest.

I think the issue is that TD is using integrated graphics by default every time I reload my pc.

I’m getting some reports, and so far seems to be so on the one laptop where I can reproduce this, is that the issue isn’t occurring in the 581.xx series of drivers.

Do we have any solution yet? Thanks in advance for the time spent on fixing/understanding this!

The current evidence we’ve have says this is fixed in 581.xx series of drivers. Does that not fix it for your case?

Hi, I’m getting this same error on a 5090 Laptop GPU with the 581.57 driver installed Any idea what’s happening? I had been running TD fine until a couple days ago

What has changed on your system in the past days? Were you on driver 581.57 previously?
