OAK4-D integration

Hello and good morning,
I have an Oak4-d lying here in front of me. And wanted to ask if anyone has ever used it together with Touch desigern.

It has a special operating system and works a little differently in a few places than the old models.

It is not a problem for me to program it so that I can get the data I need from it. as it is a standalone device I can simply send the OSC data or video stream. But an integration would of course be more comfortable.

Hey Disco,

I am currently trying to integrate OAK 4 D Pro with TouchDesigner.

For now, I’m just trying to receive the raw feeds into TD. I installed TD without the native OAK D integration that includes DepthAI v2 and manually installed DepthAI v3 through tdPyEnvManager.

I can’t make it work through OAK Device CHOP yet, and didn’t have more luck with the script TOP.

Did you manage to get something?

Hi @Karthenon,

we are currently working on supporting DepthAI v3 but this is still a bit aways.
You can though make use of your OAK by using DepthAI v2 while some DepthAI nodes might be missing.
There is a sample file in C:\Program Files\Derivative\TouchDesigner.mmmm.nnnnn\Samples\OAK

cheers
Markus

Dear Markus and community I’m working on a Mac and TouchDesigner 2025.31550. I was ready to invest in a Luxonis OAK D camera. However, should I instead be looking to purchase the newer OAK 4 to ensure future proofing? Would someone mind providing pros and cons for each: OAK D vs OAK 4. Many thanks Simon

…Just to add I was about to purchase OAK-D Pro W PoE. Thanks again!

Hey Simon,

OAK 4 devices support only depthai v3 while OAK ones work both with v2 & v3.

If the new features of the 4 matter to you I would recommend getting it and eventually TouchDesigner will support depthai v3 natively. In the meantime you can tweak a workaround because the camera can stream video feed through WebRTC but it’s less efficient than the OAK Device CHOP.

Cheers,

Simon

I am actually struggling to even feed a simple video feed via WebRTC or RTSP to a TD sketch with the OAK4D and depthai v3. Has anybody got a working example?

Also, I don’t really get this line in the TD documentation

With the release of Luxonis’ RVC4 cameras, there has been a major update to their depthai API. Versions of TouchDesigner from 2025.30k Experimental onwards utilizes Depthai V3, which comes with backwards compatability changes to previous projects using OAK.

as TD 2025.30770 contains e.g. an OAK Device CHOP that still uses XLinks..

Hi @tafkams

It looks like the OAK-D experimental page was accidentally moved to Official, that should be fixed now.

As for support for DepthAI v3, we are still working out details on how to best integrate the new features of v3 with Touch. We do have a separate build that is using v3, however it’s not polished and is subject to change and therefore not yet in either Experimental or Official.

Sorry for the confusion,

Huck

@Karthenon Hello Simon, thank you for your advice. Based on what @tafkams and @huck have added today I think I will hang fire on the camera a little longer.

Best wishes,

Simon

Thanks for the info! Is there any chance one might get a hand on that unpolished separate build? All I really need is getting the depth image from the OAK4D in high resolution
