Hello all,
I am still learning Touchdesigner only for a few months. I have followed the Interactive HQ article about Orbbec cameras as a good new alternative to Kinect cameras. So I purchased Orbbec Gemini 2 camera hoping it will be a good new replacement for Kinect. However, I got quite disappointed…
Although I managed to link the camera to Touchdesigner, I realized it only has native Orbbec TOP component but it does not have even near functionality to Kinect ones. I can only use the camera as a web camera. But I cannot choose any body parts separately to make interaction controls like with Kinect, for example, hands, or head, or legs, etc. It does not have this functionality at all. Which means that the interaction possibilities form my art in TD will be way too limited.
I heard about Orbbec Femo Bolt cameras which i guess are closer to Kinect Azure functions in TD. However , it is too expensive for me to buy.
I was wondering if someone has managed to replicate the Kinect camera functions with Orbbec cameras such as choosing different body parts for interaction? Or should i just forget aboit Orbbec cameras and just purchase Kinect 2.0 since it is much more affordable than Orbbec cameras.
Please let me know your opinion.
Hey there, you missed that the models replicating the kinect features are the femto mega and bolt. See documentation here:
I guess if stuck with the gemini you could run pose detections on the video feed but thats another rabbit hole.
Good luck!
