Orientating an object along the surface

Hi!

I’m looking for a better solution to do this. There was a perfect example for 2D-method in the snippets, but I couldn’t figure it out for 3D. Can I somehow avoid using chops for the rotation? (Which I think is not working really well, although looks somehow quite nice.)

Hi @tonirandell

you could look up the normals of the surface at the point where your object is placed and use those to align it. No need for CHOPs in this case. You can fetch them from after you recalculate them in the Normals POP, although you could save that step by calculating them directly in the Noise POP via the Compute Point Normals parameter on the Noise POP’s “Output” page.

Hi!

Thanks! I was trying to do something like that, but I didn’t understand how’d I rotate the box towards the normal?

Or maybe I did. With look at parameter and Null component? Is this what you meant?

…but is there any way to do this without looking for the nearest grid point with neighbour?
