But I really do not understand why keep everything a secret? I mean this case and others like it. please explain to me what is the point? why can’t you tell me, I really don’t understand,
it somehow affects sales? the reputation of the company? can you direct me to some articles that explain this? I have seen this in other companies, but I don’t understand why they stick to this policy.
I guess having no news will go majorly unnoticed as life goes on. Announce something vague and you’ll be getting everyone’s attention. In reality the timeline won’t change even if they speak or they don’t, and giving a timeline will have no benefits for them. It’s usual that the final 5% of development takes 80% of the time, and Derivative doesn’t have any shareholder pressure on their backs; that’s how you get poor releases and bad user experience with way more support expenses.
Also, there are companies and companies out there. Derivative is relatively small (I see 20 to 40 employees). You can’t expect the same support and services from small than large companies, they have way less pressure than others may have on the same situation for the good due to size. Also the developers are very reachable right here and I’m confident they won’t enjoy reading your comment. There are other things worth ranting more about than POPs.
this is a useful context, thank you. here i probably wanted to clarify, i’m sure the developers are working 100%, and everyone else too, it’s more a question to those who cover the news, why not just say that “sorry it didn’t work as we thought, we’ll tell you later as we figure it out, we’ll be in touch”. for people like me such messages are important, and i think i’m not the only one,
peace and love to everyone, i didn’t mean to offend anyone.
Can’t wait to test those, it seems like it could unleash so much new possibilities. Having said that, as dusshno has mentioned, any information about estimated release date or status (i.e. is it 70% there or 95% there) would be also nice.
I think @Verbose said it well. Estimating timeline with these things is (sometimes) just impossible. I don’t think the release date of experimental build is super important as it will take much more time after that to reach stable and production ready version. There is no need to rush, it always takes time to do things right and I think community understands this. I think its much better to wait and release new experimental branch only once they feel more confident about it rather than trying to hit some arbitrary timeline
I think what is a bit frustrating though is that everyone that was at the touchdesiger event in Germany has had POPs since May of last year. Which I get giving attendees a bit of an early release if it was actually going to be a summer release, but it’s obviously taken longer than that. I just wish they would release the version that the attendees got as is. From what people have been sharing and the fact that they decided to share it in the first place, it seems stable enough to let people play with it
@dusshno@tmvankirk25
Apologies for not enough information here in the forum and some other places. We share some info on SNS but we rarely ever give hard timelines or release dates.
You assumption is true, its taking much longer to get into a good state for experimental, but we are working flat out on it. We hope to have an experimental build ready in the coming months (I can’t promise anything tho)
But you can become an alpha tester now, just contact support@derivative.ca and you’ll be added to the next group of alpha testers. At this point its like play-testing, you can play with POPs and give feedback and report bugs to help us polish it more quickly.
FYI - There’s no guarantee that anything you make in the current alpha version will work in the public experimental versions released later this year as everything is subject to change in the current alpha. Once we get to experimental, its considered beta and we usually avoid such drastic changes.
Do we have any further updates regarding the POPs release?
…or is it still “soon™”?
Unless I’ve missed it, I haven’t seen anything official lately
This is merely a question and not a complaint as I fully appreciate there must be a lot of work happening behind the scenes and I’m firmly in the camp of: happy to wait until this new feature is fully realised before release, than to have it rushed and then contend with bugs for however many months while it’s incrementally patched.
