Problem importing .ply

I have some pointclouds from different sources (polycam scans, a scan made with XGrids LixelK1, even tried the stanford bunny). When trying to load it in the Point File In TOP it gives an warning: The following fields are not available in the point file: X Y Z

The .ply files open fine in meshlab and blender. I’m running Touchdesigner 2023.12120; free version, could that be the problem?

cheers,
Mike

That usually just means that the file uses different names for the position data than the default. If you click on the ‘Red’, ‘Green’ or ‘Blue’ parameter menus you should be able to pick new fields to assign to each color channel in the texture. Note: the field names are case sensitive, so a field called ‘x’ won’t match with the default ‘X’

If you’re still having problems you can post one of the files here and we’ll take a look (or e-mail it to support@derivative.ca)

As far as the license limitations, the non-commercial license only limits the overall size of the texture to 1280x1280. Files with more points will still load, but some points will be dropped.
