Problem with Enttec Pixelator Mini and DMXOut CHOP

I’m sending Art-Net to an Enttec Pixelator Mini over a wired LAN network, and the Pixelator Mini is controlling a couple hundred of Enttec’s puck RGB leds. This set up works fine when I’m sending it Art-Net from Madrix, but when I use Touchdesigner as the Art-net source I see single-frame glitches that flash on the LEDs once every minute or so. These glitches usually manifest themselves as white flashes, usually on 10-30% of the LEDs in a random area.

I’ve done a lot of trouble shooting and the only possible cause left seems to be within Touchdesigner.

One thing I’ve noticed is that if I drag the Touchdesigner window while it’s sending Art-Net the LEDs glitch out continuously for as long as the Touch window is moving. Maybe this doesn’t mean anything, but it might be a hint.

Enttec mentioned that I should set Art-Net to send full frames, not optimized frames, but the DMXOut CHOP doesn’t have any options for this. Does anyone know if the DMXOut CHOP sends full frames by default, or have any ideas for how to solve this glitch?

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

just for some more context: are you using the DMXOut CHOP in Packet per Channel mode and how is your framerate when this is happening?

Cheers
Markus

Hi Snaut, thanks for the reply,

My DMX Out CHOP is in Packet per Channel mode, and I’m sending five different channels to Art-Net universes 0-4. The DMX rate is set to 30, and the project is also set to 30fps which it has no trouble running at.

One thing to note is that these Enttec Pixelator Minis were just released by Enttec. They had to update the firmware on the first one we received to get it up and running, so it’s possible that it’s something on that end too. Just trying to troubleshoot from both sides!

If you pause the timeline altogether, the LEDs just hold their last known value?

If you put a Hog CHOP down, you can always get the bad behaviour Im assuming?

We’re wondering if your networks are creating CHOP channels that are more than 1 sample long when frames are dropped?

Hey Rob, thanks for the reply.

For some reason when we switched our cheap ethernet cables out for good outdoor shielded cables the glitches pretty much went away. I didn’t have time to test thoroughly, but it seemed stable after that. Just wanted to update in case anyone else runs into similar issues!

Rob, I’ll try your suggestions next time I have access to similar equipment.

Thanks!
