Hi guys,
I have a Lenovo laptop with the following config:
i7 2670QM (2.3GHz, quad core with HT), 6gb ddr3 and a nVidia gt540m with 2gb ram GPU
If I try to run even a simple particle system (100 particles ) it works well (40-50fps) for like 10 minutes and after that it just drops to 3-4fps and stays there. Render resolution is set to 720x576.
I this normal ?
LE: I just noticed using a “gpu meter” gadget on win7 that even when nothing is running (TD is just open and the project is on pause) my video card usage is around 50%. If I start the project it jumps right away at 99% and the card and cpu start heating up.
The system should not slow down over 10 minutes. Have you made sure that the Life Expect is short so that particles aren’t continually adding up? The parameter is in seconds and the default is 1000 which is very long, try 10 seconds to see if this is the problem. You can also MMB on the Particle SOP to see how many points have been added.
TouchDesigner will always try to maintain your project’s FPS setting as its running in realtime, so 100% processor usage is not uncommon to maintain 60 frames per second (or whatever FPS you’ve set)
Thanks ben. I’ll give that a try and lower the fps a little.
