Question: Gradient Mesh effect

Hi,

TD beginner here, looking to emulate the effects of Illustrator’s gradient mesh function. Essentially trying to take 4-5 specific colors and have them mesh together in a somewhat randomized motion,

The effect I am looking for is very close to a grid SOP to a noise SOP with point diffuse color attribute, but I’d like to control the colors displayed.

I’ve uploaded a file, which when you remove the mesh is essentially what I’d like to animate.

Much thanks for any help.

Hi Dromedery,

This is in the camp of replicating the result, but not the process. You can get organic like motion with a fixed number of colors by a combination of noise, a ramp, and a lookup TOP:

nosie_lookup.PNG
base_noise_lookup.tox (670 Bytes)

That will get you close to the end result, but this kind of approach is different form how you might tackle this in Illustrator. Is that the kind of result you’re after, or are you looking for a while to emulate the process?

Hi Raganmd,

Thank you, I can definitely use that. Elegantly simple. I was attempting to colour vertices on the SOP I mentioned, based on variation in the Z axis.
