I’m having trouble loading movies. The only thing I’ve been successful so far with is loading a WMV that came with the machine.
I tried the Quicktime and LIBAVCODEC libraries.
I can open the movies in Quicktime Player.
I uninstalled and installed a different build (3715), but it wouldn’t start the program (coudlnt find 'access point? [sic])
I’m going to attempt to add my config to my signature…
LIBAVCODEC is the preferred method now, can you post a sample file that you are unable to play?
You can email it to me at malcolm@derivative.ca if you prefer also.
I should probably state that I am new to Windows as well.
I’ve confirmed a few things since my post. I can load and play clips from an OS X networked drive. Once I copy the clips over to local drive I lose the ability to open them.
I’m starting to ‘smell’ the dreaded ‘permissions syndrome’ that plagues many aspiring computer creatives.
A few noob queries:
I’ve switched to ‘workgroup’ (as opposed to ‘homegroup’) settings several times - do I need to ‘fix permissions’ or something?
I’m starting to think I probably shouldn’t be working from the boot drive, so I made a new partition and am doing some tests with it. I have to admit that this Windows Home/Workgroup analogy is not really making sense. I understand the need to ‘lock down’ when you are constantly combating viruses. OS X is no picnic either in this regard.
SO what is the standard setup for a touch station?
I have only one internal drive- should I have at least two, and somehow set the second as a properly ‘permission-ed’ data drive?
SHould I be using Windows Pro, as opposed to Home edition ?
The OS version shouldn’t make a difference.
What is the error the Movie In TOP gives you, and what’s the full path that’s getting put into the File parameter of the Movie In TOP. It’s possible the path isn’t getting resolved correctly somehow.
I noticed that if a file from the mac is not named in proper windows syntax, then it won’t open if I rename in Windows, but if I rename in osx it will open. So I’m guessing still this has to do with ‘creator’ and permissions and their relationship between mac and pc. Fun Stuff!
That file works fine for me as well (win7 box). You shouldn’t have to worry about homegroup/workgroup stuff, usually you can leave that be and not touch it.
Make sure your user account on the Windows machine is an Administrator account, that can cause issues if you’re not an Administrator.
