I am now getting into the VJ scene. Had my first show new year’s eve! I’ll post some thoughts and images soon…
I was hoping to get some quick feedback on what options exist to improve video playback response when using a projector on a 50 foot cable. I assume that the length of the cable and the framerate of the projector (epson 3010) will be the main causes of delay.
Does hdmi or dvi make a difference?
Is there any type of amplifier/extender/etc, that could bring down the latency?
Does it make a difference which output I connect the projector to on my vid card? (gtx 780)
What kind of latency were you seeing? I’d be surprised if the cable length added any lag, since the speed of electricity is super high (speed of light or near-to if I remember correctly). Image quality sure, but not extra latency.
Ahh, perhaps I’ll have to do some more experimenting with my projector then. Not sure if there’s a way to bypass any image processing the projector does since it’s a home theater proj. For now I can just tell you that it was definitely noticeable i.e. my monitor in front of me showed the image before the projector. Maybe 100-200ms?
If your projector is designed for home theatre (or if you have a HD TV), see if it has a “Game” mode. Game modes typically bypass all DSP in the signal path and give you the best latency. I have noticed as much as a 1/4 second improvement on HD TVs.
Well. my proj doesn’t have a game mode or anything similar. I set it up at my house and now the lag doesn’t seem so bad… I’ll have to keep experimenting. I’ll report back when I can replicate the problem.
