Render pick and tumbling?

Currently we have a fixed viewpoint (the cam in the renderpass TOP) when interacting via renderpick. I’d like to build a setup which allows me to change the viewpoint by tumbling the used camera right in the panel showing the render (and not via manually hanging the camera’s parameter). Similar to the regular geo viewport tumbling.

So is it possible to use a panel’s u, v and [lmr]select variables to calculate the xform parameters needed to tumble the camera used in the render TOP around the origin or the current picked object’s location? Any expressions available for calculating this? Could/should it be build right into the renderpick CHOP?
