I’m using the movie file out TOP to record scheduled 1 hour recordings. The files work and save without issue but they are not recording for the entire duration that the record parameter is on. I’ve tested on multiple machines and multiple lengths, the recorded duration has varied between 10-45 minutes when trying to record a 60 minute clip. I’m using a Quadro RTX4000 and saving with the H.265 codec.
Not sure if this applies to your usecase but have you enabled the “play when minimized” option in TD preferences? Otherwise TD stops when minimized.
Thanks for the reply! I’d love for it to be that easy, although I did have it checked (must be on by default?) The file continues to work and I leave the window open at all times, PC is also left on 24/7.
I tested a similar setup locally on a different computer and got very similar results. I tried recording 6x 1 hour recordings and all 6 files play but they are between 43-46 minutes long. I put an info CHOP on the movie file out TOP and it looks like it records without issue and then it just starts dropping every single frame until the record parameter is turned off. My latest production recording has 81098 total frames written and 44546 total frames dropped (which still doesn’t make perfect sense as that adds up to over 60 minutes)
Are the videos truncated, or are they missing random frames within them?
It’s difficult to tell with my current setup, but the audio doesn’t skip or anything of that nature - so I believe it’s truncated. I’ll do a test with other footage to be sure. I have tried with the realtime flag on and off and it didn’t seem to make a difference.
Maybe success? I noticed both test computers had power settings that weren’t set to never, I also turned off “play when minimized” and I have recorded a proper length video for the first time!
The symptoms didn’t seem like a sleep issue as the videos were different lengths, even maintaining an almost perfect 3/4 of desired time at the start of my testing.
I’ll update if anything changes but looks like I’m in the clear.
Thanks for the help!
Also make sure you turn off the ‘realtime’ flag at the top of the interface, this way it will not skip any frames when recording. With the realtime flag on (default) any time there is a frame drop, a frame is skipped in your movie and it will result in a shorter movie.
