Running Touch on a Retina display

I am running TouchDesigner on a MacBook Pro running Windows 7. The screen resolution is set to 2880 x 1800 and the text in touch is too small to read. I tried increasing the Windows text DPI setting but it does not affect the text size within Touch.

Is there any way to increase the text size of the interface from within TouchDesigner, within preferences or in a config file? I looked but I couldn’t find anything.

I remember having the same problem when I first setup my 2013 MBP. I think I was able to resolve it by installing the latest gpu drivers from NVIDIA. I also remember I needed to install the bootcamp tools as well.

good luck.

I just cranked down the resolution of the screen. Was easier.

Yes, as Elburz says, screen resolution settings are the answer. For the 15" Macbook Pro Retina, use 1920x1200.

But then all text goes fuzzy and hard to read, instead of the native resolution which is crisp. How do I get around that?

Same problem here, changing to 1920x doesnt fix the problem. TouchDesigner interface is still super little. What is the rest of the people using retina displays doing ?? otherwise this is unusable.

Hey,

can you post a screengrab of the full desktop?
In windows a tool called “Snipping Tool” can be used for that.

Cheers

Hi there
You could try the following:
got to this website http://www.danantonielli.com/adobe-app-scaling-on-high-dpi-displays-fix/. This guy shows a trick how to use photoshop with a high dpi display. I tried the same for touchdesigner. I loaded one of those provided manifest files from this site, renamed it to “touchdesigner088.exe.manifest” and moved it into Program Files → Derivative → TouchDesigner08 → bin. i changed the entry in the registry, following the description, (be carfeful with the registry!)
this not a solution, there are still some issues, it’s a workaround, but the interface looks better.
with best regards
Ralph

If you tick the disable scaling on high DPI settings box in properties when you right click on the shortcut/app it definitely helps on external screens.

This might lead to other issues however!

Hi,

tried both of the workarounds,
ticking the box didnt do anything, nor did the ‘.manifest’

re: the manifest, did you change anything internally on that file aside from renaming it?

it would be great to get this working on high DPI laptops. If anyone else has had luck, please post

Trying to understand why some people can’t get this working with the resolution settings and for others its fine. I’ve personally never had a problem on my Nvidia equipped Retina Macbook. Another tip is to change the resolution using the Nvidia control panel instead of the Windows display settings.

Could everyone pipe in if they are using a Nvidia-based retina or an AMD-based retina and it it works or not for them?

Windows 10 doesn’t do anything to improve hiDPI support unfortunately.

sorry

We are aware it is a workaround, but even more unfortunate is that for some people the workaround isn’t working. I am trying to help those for which the workaround isn’t working right now.

We have evaluated the issue and will fix our software as soon as possible. TouchDesigner is completely openGL the required work to create a solution for this is substantial. We’re thankful for the patience of all effected by this.

FWIW, simply changing the resolution is fine (a little fuzzy but OK) on my side, I was just trying to find a way to make it work w/o fiddling with the resolution everytime I work in TD.

Im working with a gigabyte laptop P35X with a native resolution of 2880x1620 - GTX980M…

let me know if there is anything you’d like me to try, im happy to experiment.

I run Touch on a Retina MBP with NVidia GeForce GT 650M. I’ve bumped the resolution down to 1920x1200 and it works fine for me.

Having TD interface scale following windows 10 settings would be great.
just got a new laptop with a QHD screen (3200x1800), it’s a bit of a shame to be running in 1920x1080

bergermon solution works for me!

@delray
no you don’t need to change nothing internally.
double check your manifest file name. it has to be touchdesigner088.exe.manifest

The issue with doing this is that other features in TD won’t work correctly. The Monitors DAT will return incorrect results because Windows lies to us in this mode. Window COMPs will open at the wrong spots and resolution as well.

Ensure that under your Device Manger → Display Adapters you are running off your dedicated graphics card driver and not the default Windows Display Driver or integrated graphics chip. I initially was having problems and found this to be the problem.

Whenever a new build posts, I look through the release notes secretly hoping that high-resolution display support sneaked in somehow.

I know that UI resolution is a trivial thing in the grand scheme of things, but the net result of this limitation is that I keep my resolution set to a chunky-looking subset of my display’s possible pixel density, always, so as not to have to meddle with the Settings all the time.

I’m assuming that resolving this is planned. Where is this on the roadmap?
