Screen Constantly Blinks with User Interaction (on M3 Mac)

Hi there,

I’m not sure if this happens only in my environment, but the screen keeps blinking during interactions. The app generally runs smoothly, but subtle mouse movements cause the screen to blink constantly, which is quite distracting.

I noticed this note in the 2023.12000 release:

  • macOS - Fixed issue which caused windows to briefly flash blank content when opened sometimes.

I was excited to see this, thinking it might resolve the issue, but unfortunately, it didn’t fix the problem.

Here’s what I’ve found so far:

  • I tested on M3 Max, M2 Ultra, and M1 Max, but it only occurs on the M3 Max.
  • For example, the screen blinks every time I press the Tab key in the Network Editor.
  • It also happens when I hover over different node names in the “OP Create Dialog,” though not when I move quickly between them. (Please see the video for reference.)
  • It happens whether the timeline is playing or not

Since the issue doesn’t show up in screen recordings, I filmed the display directly:

Apologies if this has already been reported, but I couldn’t find any similar cases in the forum.

Here’s my setup:

  • MacBook Pro with Apple M3 Max (Sonoma 14.6.1)
  • TouchDesigner 2023.12000 (also tested with 2023.11220)
  • 31.5-inch LG Display (clamshell mode)

Thanks in advance for your help!

P.S.

  • Very rarely, the issue doesn’t occur (about 1 out of every 10 launches).
  • When connected to an external display, the blinking sometimes only happens on the external screen.
    • Maybe after 2023.12000, it’s not happening on MacBook’s built-in display anymore

This issue is quite inconsistent, and I apologize for the trouble. It would be great if a solution can be found.
I’ll continue investigating with other external displays and setups as well.
Thanks again for your time and help!
