As the title says. On my mac M1 Pro, since one of the POP alpha release builds, and now in the official experimental build, TouchDesigner often (90+% of the time) takes 3-5 minutes to start up, even with a small default file.
Anyone else having this issue?

Well, as usual when I need to dig deeper into an issue, it magically disappears. TD has been opening faster today than at any point in the last month lol. Happy for that. But its frustrating :). I’ll get a spin dump if the issue comes back.
@Guillaume.L it happened again. Here’s my spindump, I had to force it since the program doesn’t actually freeze. It just takes a while before the splash screen even pops up. once the splash screen shows up, it starts relatively quickly. I’m on OSX 15.5.
Hi - there’s nothing particularly unusual about the spindump - it looks like TouchDesigner finished launching while you were taking it.
If you’re able to capture a spindump earlier (so it has the pre-splash screen hang), that might tell us something.
Are you on power or battery when you’re doing this?
Does it happen opening TouchDesigner to the default file, rather than opening a saved file of your own?
Ok, will try to again next time it happens. I just opened touch and it took just seconds. sometimes multiple minutes like when i updated this thread. i am on power source (not battery) when this happens, pretty much always on power source. I am using the Function Store Tools default file. Don’t think that should be the issue since sometimes it does open so fast.
If you could switch back the default file, or the default empty file, just to see if the issue persists, that would be helpful.
If it’s hanging before the splash screen this may not be relevant, but it’s always good to eliminate as many variables as possible.

It is definitely hanging before the splash screen. Once I see splash, we are good to go.
You can capture from the very start by collecting a spindump from the command line:
If you open Terminal (in /Applications/Utilities), then enter
sudo spindump -o ~/Desktop -wait TouchDesigner 20
and enter your password when prompted
and then launch TouchDesigner
it will start capture as soon as TouchDesigner launches, and capture a longer sample (20 seconds). The resulting file will be saved to your desktop.

thanks @bangnoise. great to know and I will spend some time specifically running this and testing start times. the problem is that I don’t know when it will happen, so I will probably have to do this process every time I start touch for a little while. doubley hard to catch because once it happens, I’m usually not able to reproduce it on the next start attempts. but we’ll get to the bottom of it

Just thinking about possible causes, a few questions:
- do you have other versions of TouchDesigner installed? If so, does launching Experimental after using Official trigger the problem?
- do you get repeated macOS permissions prompts (eg asking for permission to access the Desktop, which should only happen on first use)?
- do you have any hardware which is sometimes connected - eg USB or bluetooth devices beyond keyboard and mouse? If so, does disconnecting those devices make a difference?
- Nope, just experimental installed now with commercial license.
- Nope, none of those when this issue happens.
- Use bluetooth mouse and keyboard mostly (from Logitech). Kinda a pain with my setup to test without them (my laptop is usually tucked away) but I will do some testing.
Thanks - I wouldn’t expect the mouse or keyboard to cause an issue, I was more thinking of audio or MIDI devices, so no need to disconnect those.
Hopefully capturing a spinreport for the very start of a launch will reveal something.
I’m having the same issue on my Windows computer. For the past couple of days, TouchDesigner takes a very long time to launch, even with a default, empty project.
How can I share the Spindump or log file with you to help diagnose this?

I can’t see any errors, but the process is very slow. Launching a new project takes 109 seconds, and it appears to update all the nodes on every launch.
he same issue occurs when I quit the application.
I think I’ll try reinstalling it to see if that makes a difference, as I’m experiencing the same problem with both the 2023 and 2025 versions.
