SOLVED: Glitches in merged sops. Camera view is responsible?

Hi.
I just made a project with an object that is merged out of 3 SOPs.
It shows weird glitches at the connections.
BUT ONLY when the camera view is set to ‘perspective’ and is not visible when the view is set to ‘orthographic’
That has to be a bug, or what am I doing wrong.
My setup is Windows 10, NVIDIA 2070 and TD 26590.
I have attached a tox with the project.
Thanks Markus

Hey @knoedel

I’ll confirm internally with a graphic dev but I think that what we are seeing here is some Z fighting or clipping caused by the geometry topology.

If you go in wireframe mode on a viewer (hitting W) you can see the mesh topology you are pushing to the GPU. This is what the Render TOP might not like in perspective mode.

Maybe you could try first to split your spheres to have a topology that is a bit cleaner.

Best,
Michel

Hey @knoedel

I noticed on the camera COMP, the near par is non-default. When changing it back to 0.1 the Z fighting is gone.

Note that it works in your current setup but it’s really just because of the overall camera position. Fixing the geometry is a more reliable approach.

Best,
Michel

Thank you.
The funny thing was that I tried to replicate it in different versions of TD, but never had the idea that the near par could be the problem.

And could you please lead me to some info about cleaning up my sops = splitting the spheres and making a clean object out of all that unnecessary clutter.
