SOLVED: OBS - Virtual Camera - Video Device In TOP - Distorted Image in TouchDesigner

Hi everyone,

I’m having an issue when trying to import video into TouchDesigner using the Virtual Camera feature in OBS. The video signal is coming through, but the image appears distorted — stretched or compressed in an unusual way, with incorrect aspect ratio or resolution.

Has anyone experienced this? Are there any specific settings in OBS or TouchDesigner that could help fix the distortion and get the video to display correctly?

I would appreciate any advice or solutions you might have.

Thanks in advance!

Hi @crlczz

Can you please share:

  • MacOS Version
  • OBS Version
  • TouchDesigner Version

Best,
Michel

Hi @JetXS

MacOS Sequoia 15.2
OBS 31.0.0
TouchDesigner 64-Bit Build 2023.11880

Thanks,
Carlo

I’m still on Sonoma - will update.

But things look good on my end.

Can you test with latest TouchDesigner ? 2023.12120.

Edit: Can you send a different resolution ? What is your canvas set to?

Best,
Michel

So the issue is indeed the vertical mode it seems. I was able to reproduce.

It’s not occurring on Windows. So I’m assuming it’s either an AV Foundation issue or an OBS Virtual Cam driver issue.

I’m logging this with a developer but we might not have much control on this.

Best,
Michel

Hi Michel,

Thank you for identifying the issue. I can capture the video in horizontal mode and then crop it using a ‘fit TOP’ node.

Thanks,
Carlo

Thanks for the report. This will be fixed in the next TouchDesigner release.
