Hi everyone,
I’m new here and just started learning Touchdesigner. I’m having a serious problem with .toe files. Well, I save the project normally by ,Save As…" but the project weighs strangely small - 5kb.
Later when I reopen the project is empty. There is only “perform” and “locals” window, nothing else…
The “perform” window shows the info Warning: window operator is missing or to a blank base component. (/perform). In the “Backup” folder also files weigh 5kb and are in strange formats saved.
Maybe the solution is trivial, but I’m just learning. I have lost so many projects and and I think I’m going crazy. I have already reinstalled the program and it is the same… I have the non-commercial version of Touchdesigner 2023.11340.
Ps. English is not my native language, also I apologize for the mistakes.
Thanks for the report.
First update TouchDesigner to the latest version available.
In the status bar, there seem to be an issue with the file numbering.
How do you name your file when saving ?
Can you share the project as a zip, with the Backup folder ?
Are you saving to a Google Drive or Dropbox synced folder ?
Can you maybe record a small video / gif showing how you save your whole project exactly when you replicate the issue?
Thanks,
Michel
Hi there,
Responding, I give different names e.g. “Exploding Star” (just like the names of the tutorials) etc.
I don’t save to a Google Drive, everything on PC drive (as I checked it’s SSD Patriot Burst). Today I have no way of checking how it’s now with saving new projects, but tomorrow I will do that. If it’s the same, I’ll record a video.
I checked today on friend’s device and one project was working normally (project “Custom[…]”). After reinstalling Touchdesigner on my PC, this project also works, but the others opened once, others are invisible and empty. BelowI add the ZIP - the project “Exploding[…]” doesn’t work at all, the project “Custom[…]” works, but Backup are still in strange formats.
Best,
Kasia
Projects.KatarzynaASP.zip (70.2 KB)
Why are most of those files missing the .toe extension ?
Are you removing the .toe extension when saving ?
Please get back to us and let us know regarding the build update and a video recording.
Best,
Michel
Just came to the forum because I’m experiencing the same issues. At first I thought I had made a silly mistake and saved or exported my project wrong. But this is occurring with every single project I have or downloaded. So far, it appears if I make a new project and save, it works correctly and the project can be re-opened. Has there been a fix yet for previous project files? I do have the .toe extension in my files.

Hey @henre95
We didn’t get any feedback from previous user.
Can you share one of the file here or to support email ?
Please include a step by step on how to reproduce.
Best,
Michel
Thanks, I’ll email support.
Edit: @JetXS I no longer need support. I restarted my machine and all my projects work fine now… not sure what caused it and can no longer reproduce it.
Hi @JetXS
Sorry for not writing back. I was in the hospital for a week and only returned two days ago I managed to solve the problem. However, it was an extension issue. I reinstalled Touchdesigner to the latest version and I save every project with “.toe” at the end. In older projects it also helped if I renamed them and added .toe at the end. The computer began to read the projects.
So trivial and I didn’t think of it…
@JetXS thanks for your support,
Best,
Kasia
Sorry to hear you were in the hospital @KatarzynaASP .
I hope things are better now.
Glad the .toe file issues got fixed.
Best,
Michel
