Hi there!
I have been working on a msi notebook:
-geforce rtx4080
-RAM 16gb
-CPU i9 12th gen - 12900HX
suddendly TouchDesigner drastically dropped the fps, files I always run smoothly started being stuck at 6-10 fps,(while having GPU at around 70% usage) and even the standard start up file, or an empty file can’t get over 30-31 fps.
What I have already tried:
-power profile is already in high performance mode
-I updated Nvidia drivers at the latest version (tried both Studio and Game Ready)
-I checked in TouchDesigner Monitor DAT, and TD is using the correct graphic card
-my Nvidia Drivers have no whisper mode to be disabled
-I also re-installed windows, and then TD and Nvidia GameReady drivers.
the problem unfortunately still occurs
Do you have any suggestions on how I can narrow down the problem? Also, is there some hardware test I can perform to ensure that my hardware is functioning correctly? Also, I mostly use TouchDesigner, so I’m very aware of its performances and noticed immediately on it, do you have any suggestion on how to understand if the issue is limited to TD or general?
is the GPU busy even when TouchDesigner is not running?
Are there any clues from the performance monitor on what makes the framerate drop in the default file?
Can you make sure there is no bloatware suddenly installed on your machine?
Hi Markus,
thanks so much for your reply!
When TD is not running, GPU usage is close to 0%, while even an empty file or the standard start up one spikes the GPU at 30%.
I attach the performance monitor screenshot for an empty file, but I have never checked it before so I cannot read it properly, does it suggest something to you? If there are any specific nodes to try, please let me know.
Regarding bloatwares, I installed BCuninstaller (which was suggested in another thread). Having just re-installed windows I just have touchdesigner, windows stuff, and nvidia drivers, so no bloatwares.
I’m currently trying to figure out if the problem is just when using TD or also other softwares are having issues with gpu usage, any help is welcomed!
Hi, Thanks for your reply! Here I attach the screenshots of the task manager both with TD open (empty file) and without.
I just tried what you suggested, used the intel assistant and updated the drivers for the integrated intel gpu, but still no change TouchDesigner uses my Nvidia gpu
Currently no external screeens, but I wanna try plugging two, which is my usual set up, and see how it behaves.
Nothing obvious in the BCuninstaller for what I see, having just re-installed windows I just have windows stuff, nvidia drivers
In order to figure out if the problem is generic to the gpu, or just for TD, I tried running Resolume and I didn’t see noticeable fps drops, with the usual situation (up until the 2nd of dec everything has always been perfectly functioning)
I then tried running td and resolume together: the TD’s frame rate dropped even more (going around 8-10 for the start up file) while resolume didn’t seem to behave differently.
you’re right, the problem started presenting with the 2023.11760, then I re-installed everything and now I have the 2023.12000, but the problem with frames is identical
would you suggest restoring a previous one?
Hi Malcolm,
I tried uninstalling the 2023.12000 and installing and running the 2023.12900 but the problem is the same.
The bad news is that I also tried running Resolume with my standard set up, with two external screens, with different content on each, and also here frame rate is completely fuck-up and it’s not playable. So I would say the problem is not specific to TouchDesigner, but to my pc in general. I have no idea why it started having this issue out of the blue
If anyone could help, this is my task manager playing resolume on two external screens, with really low framerate, but gpu seems almost unused…
Hi, just to update, my disk resulted being corrupted, so the issue revealed in being more deep that what it seemed at first.
Thanks very much to everyone who shared their time and knowledge to help, it’s been so deeply appreciated!
