SOLVED: TouchDesigner Not opening Windows

I’m trying to use TouchDesigner for the first time, I downloaded it and installed it in default folder C:\Program Files\Derivative\TouchDesigner

When I try to launch it nothing happens… but I can see it running in task manager, i terminated the process and launched it again with no difference, I uninstalled it and cleaned files then downloaded older versions, I tried 4 so far with no difference, down to the 2022.31030
I updated GPU drivers, reboot, same thing.

Specs:
Windows 10
AMD Ryzen 9 5900X 12-Core
RTX 4090
128 GB Ram

Hey @miovox

Stick to latest TouchDesigner version so that we are all on par

Can you confirm your GPU drivers are fully up to date by sharing the version number of the driver?

Can you search the forum for bloatwares, in case you have something installed that could cause issues with TouchDesigner ? This include, but not limited, tools from Motherboard manufacturers, such as Armory Crate, or Nahimic…

If the machine was pre-built, it’s likely that there is some bloatware. If you built it yourself, you might have installed one of those when setting up the drivers of the machine.

Please let us know if you find anything.

Best,
Michel

Thanks for fast answer.

My GPU driver version is 535.98

I do indeed have Armory Crate, should I uninstall it? But my computer isnt a prebuilt

I’d uninstall Armory Crate and any similar things.

Tools like those pretend to help but they cause more issues than not in most cases.

I uninstalled it, also ASUS Motherboard software, Corsair Icue, some other asus stuff.

Reboot, same issue, nothing happens when opening the app. but appears in task manager

I uninstalled A bunch of stuff and its launching now. thanks

Can you list what is “bunch of stuff” by any chance so that we can keep track on our end of what software could have interfered ?

Thanks.

I can’t find the exact history of them anymore, but I remember these:

  • Asus Motherboard
  • Armory crate
  • Corsair ICUE

Reboot

  • Trident Z Lighting Control
  • Aura Services
  • Sonic Studio

Reboot
App Worked

I’m pretty sure it was due to one of the last 3 of the list.

I think it’s Sonic Studio.
For what I can tell it might come with Nahimic which is reportedly crashing many softwares. See google first page results…

Anyways - I’d keep all those away from your machine as it is indeed bloatware

If you want control on your RGB lights (Corsair Icue, Aura Services), look into OpenRGB.

I’ve heard that Microsoft is working on some universal RGB controller from within Windows.

Note: On some Asus motherboard, you have to go into the BIOS to disable Armory Crate from installing itself.

Yeah great idea, I was trying to get RGB control and had to install a bunch of stuff. But lately I don’t really care much about the rgb so I never touched the apps. I just know that Armory crate messed up my sound in Windows.

Thanks for the OpenRGB tip, looking into it! unfortunately it seems a bit limited and doesnt recognize my ram.

Hi, I got the pretty much same issue with this guy…
ASUS, not openning but shows up in task manager, GPU drivers fully updated…
But it was still not working after I uninstall the Armoury Crate and stuff…
Actually, the 099 version work well on this laptop, hence I have no idea why the new version is not working.
BTW, I use Focusrite solo3 as my audio interface, does it cause the problem?
This is the laptop I’m using:
|设备名称|LAPTOP-GOPBE9N6|
|处理器|AMD Ryzen 7 4800H with Radeon Graphics 2.90 GHz|
and the GPU is NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Ti

Hi @T3GOIZZ,

always good to try things like disconnecting external hardware. Otherwise did you see if something like bcuninstaller might find more bloatware?

cheers
Markus

Hi @T3GOIZZ,

if none of this helps, please follow instructions here:

to create a dmp file and send it to support@derivative.ca .

If TouchDesigner is hanging, you can create a .dmp file or Crash report. On Windows, this can be done using the Windows Task Manager and right clicking on the process and chooseing ‘Create Dump File’. It’s also possible using WinDbg, see Using_WinDbg_to_Debug_Crashes. On macOS, see macOS Crash logs.

Hello there,

I downloaded the latest version of Touchdesigner and it seems to open and run in the background based on the info I’m seeing in my Task Manager.

But it will not open for me. I have tried uninstalling it and reinstalling. I have all the up do date NVIDIA drivers.

Can you please help me troubleshoot?

Hi @v15m1n.work,

please share your hardware configuration.

This might be caused by bloatware or not up-to-date drivers for integrated graphics:
