Been investigating threads and available topics on Stereoscopy and aware of older methods. I am looking to up to date solutions to drive Christie / Optoma projectors with stereoscopic content direct from TD.
I got the rendering part sorted and verified via separate L / R 60fps videos fed through Ars Electronica deep space video player. This player handles the sequencing of the streams to a single seqiential alternating 120fps stream.
I am looking for the correct TD solution to do this w real time conent.
I heard that nVidia driver layer logic(s) are present and used to day, a collegue achieved this via a dll from unity. I am curious if someone has a solution for current TD versions or can help / assist implementing one.. all the rest is done.

Hey, currently the only way to do stereo with TD is via the double-wide signal formats. We don’t support a native stereo format as there is very limit demand for that feature right now. I also don’t have access to any devices that take a stereo format as input to develop with. Sorry for the bad news.

Thanks. How does that work at the moment from TD? I do have the double wide setup and have 2 different projetor setups to test with. would might work…. also happy to assist w this.. I can chk further what the driver layer solution requires… ( nVidia driver can actually handle this, just needs correct addressing as far as I have learnt)

There isn’t any knowledge that TD has of the stereo setup in that case. If the desktop has an output that is double-wide, the you’d create a Window that covers that with the left/right eyes on the left/right side of it.
@PeterHalasz not sure this will help but I have successfully run a 3D art show with side-by-side LR videos on Epson Home Cinema 3800 4K Pro-UHD 3000 lumens 3-Chip LCD Home Theater Projector with HDR (HOMECINEMA3800).
I have also done over-under and SBS 3D with older LG 75” 3D TV they don’t make anymore.
I think recent Optomas will work with SBS video - have you made that work yet?

Havent progressed further due to other obligations, I will talk to Optoma guys as manual says very little but with side by side approach will might arrive to a solution.
For the installation context with the christies its sequential that is needed, will try different approaches and as last resort i might be able to run side by side image through unreal or unity that has support for sequencing.
In case any of the TD native ideas work i will share here.

@PeterHalasz @malcolm Hey Peter and Malcolm just following up on this as I am very interested in 3D Stereoscopy myself and plan to use it again for a spring art show. I happen to have worked in R&D and Visual Environments at Christie Digital and IMAX before I retired so we did numerous simulator and immersive installations using different types of stereoscopy. Most of these Christie installs used sequential alternate eye 3D with nVidia Quadro class graphics cards to achieve multi-projector sync. Not always easy, but eventually we got all installations to work. Be very wary of nVidia driver updates as with my 8 projector EGG project we had to regress drivers and use an external master crystal sync clock to get all 8 in sync - I think it was something like 20 ppm crystal accuracy required. So one recommendation Peter is if you are using more than one projector for blended output, consider external house sync.
I am out of date on nVidia pro card solutions replacing Quadro cards but hopefully they still offer pro level sync for 3D? Malcolm do you have any recommendations on recent nVidia graphics cards for sequential 3D sync? Can something like my Gamer type RTX 4070 and 4080 do sequential 120 Hz alternate eye you think? With current nVidia game drivers?
Peter I am willing to help collaborate on this to help solve sequential sync as I would also like to be able to do this. I have some older Christie projectors on hand, some of which used to do 3D via dual DVI inputs but none of our high end Mirage 3D units (expensive). I also own 50 pairs of alternate eye Bluetooth RF glasses I use with Epson stereoscopic projectors mentioned above. I spent a couple days trying to learn how to sync those to my own 3D transmitter, without luck (Bluetooth stack and specs are incredibly complex). I used mainly IR 3D sync in past at Christie and IMAX - that is reliable and cheap.
I am very curious about this - can you elaborate a bit on this experience?
I am also curious about doing sequential with unreal or unity. I have used both a little bit in past but not in 3D. Have you settled on what sequential alternate eye 3D projectors you are aiming at? I still know folks at Christie and might be able to learn a bit more on best approaches via friends still there since I retired. My long term goal is to do higher than Full HD resolution such as 3840 x 2160 at 60 Hz per eye 3D. The Epson 3800 only handles 1080p stereo (which still looks pretty good).
Malcolm I know the market is not very interested in 3D stereo right now but here is my +1 for derivative developing that further. I can tell you from many hours in VR in 3D that it is absolutely incredible to view TD work in stereo. I am amazed how few people work in stereo because it looks so much better than 2D for almost every type of content. If you want some help in some way in procuring a device for you to test with, what would your ideal device needs be? I personally find Meta Quest 3 or 2 excellent for 3D in VR (but that takes some juggling to make it work).
Anyway, hoping to continue this conversation further and try to boost stereoscopy in Touch Designer and investigate frame-packed sequential alternate eye full res 3D solutions.

Yep, those are transparent to us, so they work as-is.
