When using the Subdivide SOP UVs are interpolated between and then when a texture is applied things still look somewhat correct but if you use a Subdivide POP and then use a lookup texture POP the uvs seem to be mangled.
If you have a look at Dropbox\XOPs\Richard\scan you can see lookuptex1 is broken and lookuptex2 works correctly. Lookuptex2 is using a subdivide SOP as opposed to 1 which is using a subdivide POP

I think I’m seeing the problem in 31533. Some parts of the tree are just black. I haven’t pinpoint yet what were the exact changes, but this problem seems to be gone in recent builds.
