Syncronize 8x4k projector outputs

Hello everyone,

for an immersive room project with 8 (maybe more in future) projectors, I need to make sure the outputs are perfectly synchronized to avoid tearing.

A professional media server like Pixera is out of budget, so I need to build a system myself.
After some quick research, I found that a system using 2x NVIDIA Quadro P5000 and a NVIDIA Quadro Sync II could be a cost efficient base, as it allows frame sync between the GPUs and is scalable to a certain degree.

The output content is pre rendered in UE (rendered in a separate 4k movie file for each projector), and I just do the blending / projection mapping in TouchDesigner.

As I didn’t work in such a setup before, I’m unsure what else to consider, if the commercial TD license is enough and if there would be an even cheaper option available?

I appreciate any input, insights, and experiences here.

To make use of Quadro Sync and the Sync In/Out CHOPs that will be required to do this, you’ll need TouchDesigner Pro and/or TouchPlayer Pro licenses. The cheaper versions don’t support this.

To play back that much video you’ll need very fast M.2 drivers, and likely a large number of CPU cores. What mix you’ll need depends on the codec you are using though.
