TD files not opening on my M2 Macbook

Hey y’all.

Yesterday I started having this issue where some of my .toe files won’t open. They freeze at the splash screen on 100%. It’s only some files, however if I put them on another PC/Mac they open no problem (so not corrupt). I can’t think of anything unique about these .toe files, (as a reference, I made all of them on the original machine I’m trying to open them on, my M2 Max Macbook)

I’ve tried restarting my laptop multiple times, uninstalling touch, removing my key license from my device, uninstalling code meter, etc. I’m totally lost and have no idea how to proceed. I’ve even opened these files on other machines, resaved them, ported them back to my Macbook and they refuse to open. Same issue, just getting stuck at 100% on splash screen.

not sure if this is a TD problem or a problem with my Mac. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT. thanks

(cant upload file right now due to this being my first post/new to forum)

Hi - sorry to hear you’re having issues.

If you open the Console app (usually in /Applications/Utilities), do you see any Spin Reports for TouchDesigner (Spin Reports is one of the sections on the left navigation panel)?

If you do, please could you send those to support@derivative.ca and reference this forum thread. If you don’t, if you could cause TouchDesigner to hang and then force one to be generated using these instructions.

If you could also attach a sample of the project files that causes TouchDesigner to hang, that would help.

Thanks - hopefully we can get to the bottom of this.

Hi - Thanks so much for the reply! I forced a Spindump Report through Activity Monitor. I attached the project file causing this issue, and I emailed support withe Spin Report. Hopefully this is helpful. I appreciate you !!!

Apologies for the delay in looking at this.

The dmp reports it’s crashing while loading an FBX COMP on start-up. More specifically, it’s crashing while rebuilding the assets from the source because the TDImportCache directory is missing. This behavior is expected so I’m not sure where it could be going wrong, and I can’t get much else from the dmp file.

Is the crash still reproducible? I can’t reproduce from the attached file alone; can you also attach your FBX file?

No worries Eric! Thankfully these files aren’t anything urgent or super important, I just wanted to understand a fix in case this happens to my other files later on. This crash is still reproducible, yet I can only reproduce it on my machine (updating macOS and upgrading/downgrading TD does nothing). If I throw it on any other computer though (mac or pc) it works fine, but even if i resave it and send it my M2 Macbook, it still refuses to open. The forum won’t allow me to attach FBX files but I will send it to support@derivative.ca and reference this thread!

Thanks again for your help. Hoping we get to the bottom of this, so no one else ends up with this issue!

I’ve tested on a few macOS systems now but have been unable to reproduce. What macOS version are you using?

MacOS Sonoma Version 14.5 (23F79)

Okay, good to know, thanks. The M2 I tested on is running Sequoia 15.3.1 so that could be the difference but I cannot confirm. You could try upgrading but I understand if that may not be feasible. I’ll see if I can find another Sonoma test-case.
