Hey all, I’ve gotten TDAbleton to work before with previous versions of Ableton, but now it’s not working (not sure if it’s new TD or Ableton version as culprit).
TDAbleton package was installed for 12.2.1
Win11 RTX 5090
TD 23.12370
Ableton 12.2.1
TDA_Master.amxd is on master channel
TDAbleton is inside of a TD project
TouchDesigner is selected as MIDI controller in Live Preferences
VPN is off
Opening Max console I see this:
TDA_master.amxd: Port must be greater than 0 and less than 65536
udpreceiver: binding to port 51111
All ports are default on both TDAbleton and TDA_Master.amxd
I updated to the experimental TD 2025 version and Ableton was immediately linked in that version. Strange, but I guess that’s fixed. Hopefully that helps someone!
Hello,
sorry for the late feedback, but i reinstalled the live scripts as you explained following the utility page and now i works. Had to reinstall a couple times though, i dont know why.
THANK YOU for answering back to me, you saved the preparation for my live gig
best regards
Hi there, I’m facing a similar issue as the initial post in this thread. TDAbleton seems unable to connect after a certain amount of TDA MIDI and level devices have been added.
macos 14.7.4
TouchDesigner Build 2023.12230
Ableton Live 12 Suite 12.2.5
The max console shows the same error: Port must be greater than 0 and less than 65536
Unfortunately, upgrading to the experimental is not an option at the moment. (I did quickly try on a non-commercial license, but no joy)
I have made a reproducible example with an Ableton set and TouchDesigner patch
From the experimental TD, install the latest TDAbleton into your Live installation, using the usual procedure. You can rename the Remote Script folder if you want to have parallel TDAbleton installations. Set Ableton to use that new remote script
Copy the TDAbleton package from the experimental build into your official project. Follow the TDAbleton upgrade instructions.
At this point you are basically using the experimental TDAbleton in your official TouchDesigner.
I followed the instructions and all comps/devices have been updated to 2.62, in TD & Ableton.
Unfortunately, the same error is still occurring, with the same errors in the max console, and TD doesn’t connect.
I updated the folder with the repro files with these updated examples as well.
Hello, I regularly have connection problems between Ableton 12.2.5 and TD2023.13370. on OSX 13.6.6 (M2)
Open Ableton, open TD, everything works correctly, then I make changes in Live: change synth presets, add plugins to one or more tracks. Everything works correctly in TD and Ableton. I save TD then Ableton. I close. And when I open Ableton then TD, TD won’t connect to Ableton… Do you have any idea what could be happening? And especially when it does this to me, how to proceed to correct the error so as not to redo my entire set… 1h20 of live with 9 synchronized video projects…
This sounds suspiciously like the OSC ports aren’t closing properly when TD closes, or possibly when Live closes. Something to try: reboot after closing, instead of just reopening. Obviously this is not the perfect solution, but it will give us more information about what is going on so that we know what to fix.
Also, you can send the Ableton log files.
Trying in 30k might also help, because the OSC operators have better connection error reporting.
unfortunately I will need to look at this when I have access to a Mac, which won’t be for a bit. Until then maybe we can narrow it down a bit with some questions.
It sounds like your project works if you have less MIDI and level devices? Is that true? Do you have an idea of what numbers we are talking about?
Thanks Ivan for the quick reply. I also tried turning off the computer and restarting everything, and unfortunately I have the same result. Yesterday I installed version 2025.31310 to see if that could change anything. And this morning, I couldn’t reestablish the connection. I checked the TDA plugins in Ableton, the ones used in the project are the ones located in my user library. I also updated the Comps to 2.6.2. I’ll send you the log.txt in PM.
Yes, in my AV Set I have 25 level devices and 7 MIDI devices in total. This includes level devices in TDA Analyzer Racks.
The workaround I’ve been using so far is to simply delete some MIDI and level devices from the Ableton set before saving it. When I re-open TD and Ableton it seems to connect. Then I pulse the ‘Add level/MIDI device’ button from the TD Comp to restore the rest.
Currently, trimming the level/MIDI devices to 18 Level & 0 MIDI devices and following the above steps seems to let TD connect most of the time. It’s not 100% reliable though.
Also, similar to nikoRLT, the TDAMaster device in Ableton says it’s connected, despite the TDAbleton Comp showing no connection.
