my text TOP is not rendering the type as expected. it does work when font size < 16 (for default setup). maybe has to do with display method - automatic?

Yes, if you change the Text TOP to Display Method = Bitmap it will work at all font sizes. Automatic uses Bitmap below 16 and Polygon above that, which on some macOS GPU the Polygon method does not work.
