TouchDesigner closes after startup screen

Hey, I was not able to open TD for the past 2 days. -got commercial version- I uninstalled and reinstalled it couple of times tried deleting everything but it just closes after the startup screen loads and doesn’t let me do anything, no error or log too. I was able to open it through command prompt once today and I am %100 sure it is not a licensing error. Anybody had similar issue or can anyone help please? I cannot open TD anymore at all :upside_down_face:

Hi @Brusk,

could it be that there were some OS or driver updates? Are you running on a Laptop with AMD chipset?

As a first step, make sure that all your drivers, including integrated graphic drivers, are up to date and that your machine is free of bloatware.

Make sure that TouchDesigner is fully up to date to the latest stable build available.

The Bulk Crap Uninstaller helps in identifying unwanted or unneeded software: https://www.bcuninstaller.com/

Find the latest driver for your GPU at Official Drivers | NVIDIA
or use Nvidia Geforce Experience Update Drivers & Optimal Playable Settings

You can also make sure that your integrated GPU is running on the latest version available via Intel Driver Assistant .

You can use the AMD Adrenalin if you have an AMD Integrated GPU, in minimal install mode, via https://www.amd.com/en/products/software/adrenalin.html

:zap::zap::zap: If your machine comes with a proprietary power management software (From Asus, Dell / Alienware… etc), make sure that it’s setup properly to run TouchDesigner on the Nvidia / AMD DEDICATED GPU when plugged to power. Otherwise, it’s likely that TouchDesigner would run on the integrated graphics, hence it is important to also make sure your integrated graphics are up to date.

If the issue persists, try to generate a dump using Using WinDbg to Debug Crashes - Derivative

Hope this helps
cheers

Hello @snaut , thank you for your reply.

I am using desktop, Nvidia GPU. I made sure every driver is up to date and checked them multiple times, 2 days ago problem disappeared for a while after I bashed Touchdesigner.exe on cmd and it suddenly stops working mid-work.

Downloaded WinDbg and trying to install bcuninstaller right now, I will provide a dump in a bit.

Here is the dump

Hi @Brusk

It looks like TouchDesigner is crashing from an exception from an external program named GPU Tweak III. Do you have this application installed? If so try disabling and running TouchDesigner again to see if this error persists.

Best,

Huck

Hey @huck

Thank you so much! Yes, when I closed GPU Tweak III (it was open hidden in the background) TouchDesigner works with no problem!
