TouchDesigner not launching on Windows 11 (GTX 1660 Ti)

  • TouchDesigner 2023.12370 and 2022.33910 both hang silently on launch.
  • No crash dialog, no error. Shows in Task Manager but no UI appears.
  • Tried with -verbose, -safe, and -gpuformonitor=0 — no output or change.
  • I used DDU to clean install both Studio and Game Ready drivers.
  • Disabled PhysX “dedicated” mode, tried OpenGL fallback (LIBGL_ALWAYS_SOFTWARE=1), and cleared %localappdata%\Derivative.
  • OpenGL Extensions Viewer runs all rendering tests successfully.
  • No antivirus or overlays; no second monitor; no logs or crash files generated.

System:

  • Windows 11 Pro (24H2 OS Build 26100.4202)
  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti
  • Latest Studio Driver installed
  • TouchDesigner fails even on a fresh reboot with no background apps running

Please advise. Happy to run diagnostics or provide system info.

Hi @alsammanx,

can you try also updating the internal GPU drivers if that applies to your setup?

As a first step, make sure that all your drivers, including integrated graphic drivers , are up to date and that your machine is free of bloatware.

The Bulk Crap Uninstaller helps in identifying unwanted or unneeded software: https://www.bcuninstaller.com/

Find the latest driver for your GPU at Official Drivers | NVIDIA
or use Nvidia Geforce Experience Update Drivers & Optimal Playable Settings

You can also make sure that your integrated GPU is running on the latest version available via Intel Driver Assistant.

You can use the AMD Adrenalin if you have an AMD Integrated GPU, in minimal install mode , via https://www.amd.com/en/technologies/software

:zap::zap::zap: If your machine comes with a proprietary power management software (From Asus, Dell / Alienware… etc), make sure that it’s setup properly to run TouchDesigner on the Nvidia / AMD DEDICATED GPU when plugged to power. Otherwise, it’s likely that TouchDesigner would run on the integrated graphics, hence it is important to also make sure your integrated graphics are up to date.

cheers
Markus

note that it works when I temporarily Disable GPU Drivers from device manager, and running on my integrated GPU (AMD Radeon :trade_mark: Graphics)
but it’s still not working on GPU

Try to switch to Nvidia Game Driver and see if that makes a difference.

Also make sure you followed all instructions shared above.

Thanks,
Michel

Can you describe where you read about that? We don’t have an OpenGL fallback, and that env var isn’t something we use.
