Trouble connecting VCV Rack (Mac) to TouchDesigner (Windows) via OSC

Hi everyone,
I’m trying to send OSC data from VCV Rack on my Mac (using the TrowaSoft OSC module) to TouchDesigner on my Windows PC, but I can’t get the connection to work.

Here’s my setup:

  • Mac (VCV Rack):

    • Using the TrowaSoft OSC module.

    • Target IP: set to my Windows PC’s IP address.

    • Out Port: 8000.

  • Windows (TouchDesigner):

    • Using an OSC In chop (I also tried an OSC In dat).

    • Network Port: 8000.

    • Network Address: left blank.

    • “Active” is turned on.

  • Both computers are on the same Wi-Fi network.

  • I’ve turned off the Windows firewall and allowed UDP traffic.

  • I’ve tried using Wireshark to look for UDP packets on port 8000, but I don’t see any incoming messages from the Mac.

Does anyone know what might be blocking the connection, or how I can get TouchDesigner to receive OSC from the Mac?
Any suggestions or troubleshooting steps would be really appreciated!

Hi @mainmina,

if you don’t see the messages coming in on Wireshark, the issue perhaps is with the connectivity between the two computers and you need to first see if a connection between them can be established.

  • check that IP addresses are on the same subnet
  • check if a Mac firewall is blocking outgoing messages
