UI resolution black box, multiple monitors, adress dropdown bug

TD 2023.11600 win10 22H2 - 19045.4529

Hello you wonderful people, =)

A small bug, mostly title says it all.

More details: As soon as there is a Pane with number 3 or higher on a second or third monitor with a res above 2k. This happens after RMB on the adress bar. The black area is dead. So there is nothing that happens if i click it. All other options work normal, its just this dead black box.

Best wishes

PS: Thank you for this great App, im a big fan!!! (no irony!)

There is now a error message in the Textport. Maybe this helps.

/ui/dialogs/mainmenu/stringfield/dropdown/set (line 5 - tabcell scrollpos_old rc 0 0 clamp(round($arg1*par("list/list/panelh")/20),0,tabnr("in1"))): Tscript Expression error: Bad path argument

Best wishes

Hi @Aikon,

thank you for the report. Currently having trouble reproducing it.
Two questions: can you see if our latest release maybe fixes the issue and does your screen have any DPI scaling?

cheers
Markus

Hello @Markus, =)

i can`t use the latest release, it crashes for me after the timer runs for 600 frames.
It just closes TD, even in the empty new pj.(no logs, nothing)

But back to the question.

Ive checked the DPI scaling options, and it seems that this could be the issue.

Setup:

3x screens with 4k res at 150% DPI scaling.
1x screen with the bug, with 2k res at 100% DPI scaling.

So im guessing that TD takes the scale from monitor 0 and uses it on all screens as a default value. =)
Just a wild shot. hihi

Thank you very much for your fast reply.

best best wishes =)

Hi @Aikon,

regarding the crash in 2023.11880 - can you give us some details on your system (OS, Video Card, Driver versions) and are the drivers up to date?

I’ll try to replicate here with 2 4k screens.

cheers
Markus

Hello there @snaut , =)

About the TD Crash:
Win10 22H2 - 19045.4651 (windows just did a update, yikes)
Nvidia 3090
Driver: Studio 555.99 → new version would be 560.70 but got released some short time ago.(didn`t update yet)
I will reinstall the 2023.11760 version, and see whats happening there.
Takes some minutes.

About the Box Bug:
Oh, i don`t know how else i can help you.
Just say it, and i do it for you =)

Best wishes

About the TD Crash:

Did the update to 2023.11760.

TD just shut itself down for no reason.

What i did was installing the 2023.11760 version, reboot windows, start TD and trying the Black box bug(still there). While using the snipping tool, TD said goodbye.

From the start of TD with an empty project, to crash is about 2 min long.

Im not doing anything at all with TD. Weird.

Hi @Aikon,

cool - I can reproduce the black background in the menu and it’s logged as a bug.

On the crashing of the newer builds - we do have a 2023.11880 available on our website but not sure this will resolve it - I’ll ask around a bit.

cheers
Markus

Hi @Aikon,

I’ll just share here our general instructions for these random crashes. Mostly these can occur on Laptops or machines with bloatware - not sure any of this applies to you but could help trying to solve your crashing issue:

As a first step, make sure that all your drivers, including integrated graphic drivers, are up to date and that your machine is free of bloatware.
The Bulk Crap Uninstaller helps in identifying unwanted or unneeded software: https://www.bcuninstaller.com/
Find the latest driver for your GPU at Official Drivers | NVIDIA
or use Nvidia Geforce Experience Update Drivers & Optimal Playable Settings
You can also make sure that your integrated GPU is running on the latest version available via Intel Driver Assistant.
You can use the AMD Adrenalin if you have an AMD Integrated GPU, in minimal install mode, via https://www.amd.com/en/technologies/software
:zap::zap::zap: If your machine comes with a proprietary power management software (From Asus, Dell / Alienware… etc), make sure that it’s setup properly to run TouchDesigner on the Nvidia / AMD DEDICATED GPU when plugged to power. Otherwise, it’s likely that TouchDesigner would run on the integrated graphics, hence it is important to also make sure your integrated graphics are up to date.

cheers
Markus
