8800 gtx, vertical sync forced on but nope.
Are you using dual monitors? There is an issue with all nvidia cards where if you have different monitors connected while using horizontal span, the video card can also correctly sync to one of the two monitors.
single monitor at the moment. But I would really be dying for a guaranteed vertical sync for an installation next month. There I’ll be using main monitor + projector, same res so far as we all know. The installation repeats the main curved triangular screen with mirrors to form a virtual spherical screen, the thing is that if vertical sync doesn’t work, it will make obvious that the sphere is not real due to the different angles of the straight line artifact of a non vertical synced image. Well, not so easy to explain at the moment, but a failure to set v-sync will particularly hit this installation/optical illusion, not less than when you get to see the strings on a magic show, game over.
But it should work fine?
me, 8800gtx,
latest drivers.
thanks
Hmm, I can’t imagine why you’d see tearing on a single monitor from our side. Touch respects the vertical sync settings of the driver. Some LCDs suffer from tearing no matter what you do though, it depends on the LCD.
Currently if you are using a monitor + projection dual screen (horizontal span) setup, you are pretty much guaranteed that one of the two outputs will tear. This is a widespread issue with horizontal span in general. The best solution we’ve been able to get from Nvidia so far is a special driver that ensures that the projector doesn’t tear, but the main monitor does. Unfortunately this driver only works on the Quadro 5600. We are trying to get this fixed pushed to other graphics cards, but no result yet.
