Using silhouette input (TOP) to interact with particles (POP)

Hey everyone,

I am currently trying to figure out a way to create interaction with this particle system. A camera will create a silhouette TOP input for the interaction, which will then have to direct what the particles POP bounce off against.
In other words, the sphere(s) in the tutorial are to be replaced with the extruded silhouette (such that the particles do not pass in front or behind the silhouette). However, so far I get somewhat stuck on trying to create pop from the TOP input.

I am rather new with POPs and had trouble finding a source online that would give me a good basis to figure this out from.

Does anyone know how I could solve this? Would it perhaps be easier to use a kinect with a 3d model to emulate this ‘rain’ particle system?

Thanks for reading,

Bas

Perhaps it will be a lot clearer if I share the project file I have been working in. Currently the TOP to POP is more of a demonstration for the sort of idea I am trying to achieve. The circle will become the silhouette and block the particles that fall down.

This implementation is very slow.
