UV Mapping and Texture

Looking for references to learn more about wrapping a UV texture around a complex geometry in TD. Unfortunately I cannot search the forums because the 2-letter term “uv” is ignored in search results. Any guidance to help me accomplish the below workflow is much appreciated!

The workflow I am attempting to accomplish is:

  • Create texture/animation with C4D
  • Render as a UV map
  • Import UV map in to TD and wrap around 3D geometry in TD

Looking forward to your advice. Any suggestion with similar results is great. Thanks!

You’ll have best results if you do the UV mapping inside Cinema4D and export both the geometry and the texture from there. You can do some mapping using the Texture SOP within TD, but it’s relatively simple and not suited for complex mapping.

Malcom,

I’m missing something - Wouldn’t exporting the model and texture, say as an fbx, in to TD not include the photo-realistic rendering as seen with C4D on most computers? I want all my lighting and shadowing effects on my texture rendered in C4D to export to TD also. Am I using the wrong file type? How do I export/import this rendered UV texture in to TD still fitted to my object?

Thanks again

It would have to be a setting in C4D to output the texture like that. Then you’d use the same UV coordinates to map to to the object as you would the normal ‘base color’ texture.
