I have 3 videos set to “sync to timeline”
I’d like to play only one at a time so i activate “play” for the one i wish to play and deactivate “Play” for the others.
I noticed that all movies are rolling even the ones where “play” is off.
is this expected ?

No quite sure what you mean, you might need to attach a file with your setup, or at least a screengrab or your parameters.
If you have movies set to ‘Locked to Timeline’, then the ‘Play’ parameter is disabled as they will just stay in lock-step with the timeline.

Ok nevermind, i didn’t notice the play button was greyed out when locked to timeline. I just disabled play parameter before switching to locked to timeline.
Makes sense.
Though is there a way to play only one video at a time when all are locked ? Should i use a timeline chop per video ?

You can use Specify Index and still have control of the Play parameter, but if your index is the timeline frame, it will jump to that position as soon as its playing. If you want them all locked to timeline time-wise, just put them into a Switch TOP, only the one that is selected will ‘cook’ once you are in Perform Mode. You can turn off the viewers to see this or if your machine chokes trying to play multiple at the same time in the network editor.
