Ways to control color of a circle TOP

Hi All,

I have a simple network with a circle TOP that I move around using my tablet, with a feedback loop to add some effects. I would like to know how I can control the circle’s color. I know, because I’ve been watching a lot of tutorials, that I can feed numerical values to r, g and b, e.g. via a LFO or an absTime expression. I would like more options, such as:

  • Manually controlling the color via a HSV slider. I found out how to do it with the palette’s RGB slider, but I would feel more comfortable with HSV. I just can’t figure out how to convert the HSV values to RGB.
  • Mapping a 2D texture, so that the color of my circle changes depending on where it is on the screen.
  • If you have other suggestions I’m willing to listen!

Thanks in advance for your help

Hello! You can use HSV Adjust TOP, Hue Offset to change the Hue of the circle (make sure the circle isn’t white). For mapping question I’d use a gradient as a background and connect circle and this gradient into Composite TOP Inside operation.

Or you can use CHOPs + HSV Adjust TOP: add a Constant CHOP, 2 channels, reference X and Y coords of a Circle TOP into them (for example op(‘transform1’).par.tx). Then use Math CHOP, Combine Channels Add, and in the Range tab change the From Range into -0.5 0.5 To Range into 0 180. Then reference this value into Hue Offset of HSV Adjust TOP

Thank you for these suggestions! I will experiment with all of them. There is so much to do and learn, it’s hard to know where to start
