Hi all, been successfully running midi from ableton to TD and it appears I’m having slight latency issues… For everything to line up right I have to delay ableton’s audio output by about 90ms which is quite a bunch. I was using loopBE before and didn’t really notice it, since then I’ve switched to loopmidi (since loopbe is one virtual midi buss, had issues with two way communication, loopmidi lets you create and name as many channels as you like). This is a bit too much latency and seems like a lot considering it’s all on one machine.
To cut to the chase are there any tricks (in TD or the system in general) to get the latency down? I will test again with loopbe to see if I notice anything but I don’t remember it being a noticeable issue before, whereas now the latency is enough to realize it’s off.
Cheers!
I’ve found that MIDI is just sort of inherently bad when it comes to that sort of thing. Unfortunately it’s the only thing that’s so ubiquitously supported. If you’re trying to work with Live and TD, you might want to consider using OSC. Although I’m not confident that the protocol itself is the most efficient, it runs over the networking layer in the OS, and doesn’t require the moderate insanity of loopback drivers.
