Whats going on that there is no leap motion to buy?

Hi everybody, how is it going?

This is not about developing using leap motion, since its integration in TD is already amazing, its more about its availability.

It is such a handy product that can be used in many kinds of interactive works but it has been some months that its not in stock anywhere, robot shop, adafruit, amazon, etc.. You can only find it in eBay and similar, that is, from people that own it and are selling either new or second hand, and very expensive.

Whats going on? Anybody knows? Will it come back being something that you can count on finding around like it used to be?

Also, since I am posting, what would be a good substitute? I dont know any other equipment specifically for hand tracking like the good old leap motion.

Hope this kind of post is allowed here, I did it because I imagine a lot of TD users also work with Leap Motion and some have probably noticed this as well.

Thanks!

@mraecloe Hey Marcelo - did you ever find out? I would like another one myself… Still none on robot shop as of today….

nothing… no leap motions anywhere but really expensive on eBay

Ok thanks. That’s a shame….

Ultraleap is going out of business. They laid off a lot of staff and sold their sensor armor of the company to Roli for use in an expressive midi controller.

At least if you are located in europe we have some in stock for rent that are collecting dust

I bought another old one on eBay for backup - about $150 Cdn. The newer ones are far pricier but the original model still works for me. Really neat device. Maybe TouchDesigner can interface with Roli in the future? Anyone tried that device?
