Hey all
I’d be really grateful to hear from some of you who are working using TD professionally, or who are working with interactive or experiential media generally. I’m curious to know how you feel the state of the industry is for you in 2026, and whether you consider it a sustainable career choice now and into the future.
I’m currently working as a freelance motion designer and 3D artist (based in The Netherlands), but after a decade I’m considering pivoting more to a role using interactive media, which I’ve seen described as Creative Technologist in a few circles. I’m currently only intermediate with TouchDesigner but I’m still surveying the careers landscape, willing to skill up further, and also open to learning new tools and software too if it makes sense.
From my research this kind of role still seems quite specialized; I haven’t found many studios and of those who I have found, even fewer using TD (most I find are more code-based). So in terms of where I should be positioning myself and what the plan is in terms of finding a job, I’m a bit clueless and not super confident. Going into a new industry freelance doesn’t fill me with confidence, I feel it’s best to join a company and learn the ropes alongside the pros, however I don’t find there’s much out there.
Would love to hear some opinions from you all! Are you working in this field FT?
Thanks in advance.
