Playing with POP Splats using the latest example implementation with additional tweaks (with https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t2ixnJ7vWjk as a general guide) - which does use GLSL MAT I believe. When I simply move a geo op and line mat (that are doing some heavy lifting), touch crashes and here are the errors I get. I recorded a video of it but not able to upload videos here. When I go to the Console app, I dont see a Crash Report. I on an M1 Mac - is it just overloading my system, or does this splat pop stuff still need to be made more stable (at least on mac)? thanks!
Could you give us more information like which build you are using and your system specs? Does it occur in any file or a specific project file? If you can share that please do.
If you are using an Experimental build older than 2025.31310, please install 2025.31310 and try to reproduce the crash.
Yes, my bad. M1 Pro macOS Sequoia 15.6.1, TD 2025.31310.
Here is the Misbehaving.toe (2.7 MB)
and here is the splat file: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1SG9Dm4yjm9T2JcwiuONO9O7bDQs3UPJK/view?usp=sharing
Hello @nerk
You are most likely running out of GPU memory. The Geometry viewer, particularly when displaying the splat file with line material, is consuming a significant amount of VRAM. When I move the Geometry node, a second instance is created for the ghost viewer in the background, which pushes memory usage beyond the available limit.
To reduce VRAM consumption, consider the following:
- Use a splat file with fewer vertices.
- In the Line Material settings, switch the Line Caps Type to Square and the Line Joint Type to Miter to create less vertices.
These adjustments can help optimize performance and prevent memory overload.
Thanks @Guillaume.L . I figured it was a resource issue but wanted to report it in case it was a bug. Thx for the tip on the Line
