Greetings everyone,
I trust you are all doing well.
I have a question that I believe many professionals in the field of immersive/interactive installations share, which is: which depth sensor/tracking device should I use?
To begin our discussion, I have consistently utilized the Kinect. I began with the 1414 model, then upgraded to the V2, and finally adopted the Azure. However, as of late, the Kinect system has become increasingly unreliable in addition to being discontinued. For instance, when automating a project to start with the operating system, the Kinect often encounters an error and fails to function, necessitating system reboots until it operates properly. Despite my attempts to automate interactive systems with the Kinect in various ways, there always remains a chance of malfunction or an inability to detect moving bodies.
Consequently, I have extensively researched alternative sensors such as the OAk-D, Orbbec Femto, Stereolabs ZED, and Realsense. While I understand that each has its own specialties, I seek recommendations for a sensor that reliably operates autonomously upon connection, ensuring system stability and compatibility with Touchdesigner.
I would greatly appreciate any insights or recommendations from the community on this matter.
Thank you for your attention and assistance.
Best regards, Gustavo Milward.
