I have a running touch file (play -l). I leave my computer for a few minutes, my screen saver comes on, when I get back it takes about 30 seconds for touch to start displaying again.
does anyone know why - of all the programs - touch takes so long to reawaken?

I dont know why but I generally turn off all power saving features of windows except for my screen which still is set to turn off in 2 hours. I suspect its that you have more than just your screen turning off - like maybe your harddisks and maybe the graphics card goes into power save mode too. Look at your power saving features and minimalize them.
