I am trying to get an input to TD through a wireless security camera. I have a cheap WANSCAM camera, but would purchase something else if it would work better. Apparently it sends a video stream through a given IP address… I tried to connect to it through the Video In TOP, but no luck. Only option including an IP address was for Allied Vision, which likely has nothing to do with this cheap WANSCAM.
I know almost nothing about this. Anyone out there who does?
movieinTOP can be an HTTP address, but it isn’t seeing my ip camera at local address 10.1.10.39:85. Maybe with a little better syntax this would show up ? Not sure.
I suppose I could have the cam dump frames on an FTP site and then import into touch, but that isn’t really the realtime scenario my client was hoping for.
Slightly roundabout, less reliable, and more costly solution would be to use wireless HDMI transmitters, then use an HDMI capture device on the TouchDesigner side. Not the greatest solution by any means…but it might work well enough in a pinch…
that is interesting Elburz. I’m curious how much delay those wireless transmitters add. For this gig we were asked to provide a realtime camera feed and are using NTSC with a bnc cable as a result
I assume they’re at least 100ms, I cant imagine them being any faster, I’ve never used one personally but I’ve always wanted to get one for the office. I’ve heard they can be a bit limited though, and only work well if they have line of sight and there isn’t a ton of other wireless interference in the air.
yeah, hence why we’re using 150ft of BNC: delay is minimized. I’m thinking the nature of wireless digital video will always require a buffer that will add a certain latency
